Stop looking like a caveman. Here’s how to use a high-grade nose hair trimmer to cut the long strands peeking from your nostrils.

Every Man’s Complete Guide to Using a Nose Hair Trimmer

Why Should I Cut My Nose Hair?

You may not care about long nose hairs, but trust us, every single girl you meet will notice them. In fact, it doesn’t matter if you smell nice or have a well-groomed beard, a few nose hairs sticking out immediately ruins your overall look.

But don’t worry! You don’t have to go through something as embarrassing and painful as nose hair waxing.

Buying a decent pair of nose hair trimmers will do the job. Here’s what you need to know about clearing the fuzz inside your nose:

Step 1: Prepare The Right Tools

Perhaps the only way how to remove nose hair properly is to use the right tools. You need to realize that men need nose hair trimmers as much as they need razors.

In fact, a common mistake a lot of men commit is not giving too much thought about trimming their nose hair. Of course, just as the best hair clippers produce good haircuts, high-quality trimmers will also clear your nose hair much faster.

Here are some common nose hair-trimming tools men usually use:

  • Nose Hair Trimmer: The two types of nose hair trimmers are the manual and electric type. Battery-powered trimmers are more popular since they’re much easier to use. Manual hair trimmers will allow you to trim your nose hair, but a manual trimmer requires using two hands. This makes it much harder to see up your nose if your hands are both occupied. For newbies, it might be a safe decision to go with a battery-powered nose hair trimmer. Make sure to choose a high-quality one that won’t easily break.
  • Nose Hair Scissors: If you don’t want to get a nose hair trimmer, then opt for a sharp pair of nose hair scissors instead. These are dull-ended tools specifically for trimming nose hair. Keep in mind that while regular scissors can get the job done, its sharp ends might cut the insides of your nose. Unless you’re fine having a few wounds where your nose hair used to be, don’t use regular scissors as an alternative.
  • Tweezers: While a lot of men and women use tweezers to clear their nose hair, TV personality and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Oz says that you shouldn’t do it. Plucking your nose hair may cause bleeding, which might lead to an infection.

Tip: For safety and efficiency, it might be best to go with an electric nose hair trimmer. A good pair can last you a really long time.

Step 2: Choose a Room With Good Lighting and a Clear Mirror

Not even the best nose hair trimmer will groom well if you’re in a dimly lit area without a mirror. The best way how to get rid of nose hair safely is to do it in a well-lit room.

After getting the right nose hair-grooming tools, it’s time to secure a room where you can freely trim the hair in your nose.

Perhaps the best place is your bathroom so all the hair you cut goes directly to your sink. Just make sure to attach a bright light bulb before you start grooming.

Also, while a normal mirror is fine, it is much easier to trim your nose hair if you’re using a magnifying mirror. You need to see up your nostrils if you want to clear your fuzz out.

Step 3: Clean Your Nose

Before you begin the nose hair removal process, clean your nose thoroughly to remove any boogers and dirt. But don’t just pick your nose with your finger, either.

Rather, place your nostrils near an open faucet then douche it clean with some running water. Afterward, separate the strands from each other using a wet cloth to make them easier to trim.

Douche Definition: A gush or shower of water into the body for sanitary or medical purposes.

Step 4: Trim Upward

Once your nose is clean, gently insert the trimmer inside your nostrils. Of course, make sure to do it slowly, unless you’re fine with getting a few cuts.

Start by cutting down the longest strands at the bottom of your nose. Once you clear the ones at the bottom, you can start working your way up to the ones that are much harder to reach.

However, keep in mind that you shouldn’t trim them too short. Also, only cut the ones that extend outside your nostrils. Don’t go all the way inside.

After every few seconds, push your nose up using your fingers to see inside your nostrils. It’ll help you gauge where to cut so you don’t just randomly snip inside your delicate nose.

This is where it pays to have an electric nose hair trimmer. As we said, a manual trimmer requires both of your hands so you can’t snip and hold your nose up simultaneously.

Step 5: Blow Your Nose Clean

After you’re done trimming your nose hair, it’s time to clean your nose once again. By this time, there should be a few loose hair strands inside your nose.

Make sure to douche it clean if you don’t want to inhale some by accident. Again, don’t use your fingers to clear your nose.

Rather, douche it clean with some running water. Wipe your face and nose dry with a moist paper towel afterward.

Cutting it Too Short

While every man should avoid growing long nose hair, you should also take care not to trim them too short. While unsightly, these exist to prevent dust, bacteria, and other airborne substances from going straight to your respiratory system.

If you cut them too short, you will leave yourself prone to different respiratory infections. So when using nose hair trimmers, make sure to leave a few centimeters to block potentially harmful irritants.

Also, cutting them too short with a pair of nose hair scissors will irritate the inside of your nose. Imagine how itchy it would feel growing a stubble of short, spiky nose hairs.

This is just a simple guide on how to use a nose hair trimmer. Just like any other type of hair, nose hairs grow at differing speeds.

If your nose hair grows fast, make it a habit to trim them along with your beard at least every two days or so. Just remember not to overdo it as well to avoid cutting the skin inside your nose.
