How To Wear a Tie With Style in Any Setting

December 28, 2023 By Kristian Sebree Leave a Comment

Ties have long been associated with a man who wants to emanate a certain vibe, and this depends on how he decides to wear a tie. The vibe also depends on his style, but not everyone understands what that means. How do you wear this classic accessory with style in any setting?

How To Wear a Tie With Style in Any Setting

Wear a Tie and Look Professional

Looking like you mean business takes intention. When it comes to wearing a tie, the professional look is a classic. Here’s how you take that style on.

1. Go With a Half Windsor Knot

The half Windsor knot is a timeless look, and it has a professional appearance without looking too stuffy. The knot is also versatile and can work with any necktie, but a standard tie is an ideal look for business.

2. Stick With Classic Patterns and Colors

At the office, it’s important to be taken seriously and exude approachable confidence. To do that, it’s a great idea to wear a tie in bold colors like red, blue and yellow. If you’re into patterns, you can’t go wrong with stripes.

Wear a Tie and Look Dressy

In a formal situation, such as a wedding or black-tie event, achieving a dressed-up look is key. Doing this is easier than it may seem.

1. Choose a Full Windsor Knot

The full Windsor is the most labor-intensive of any of the methods used to tie a necktie, but the effort is worth it when you can achieve a look that fits the occasion perfectly.

2. Decide on a Width That Works for You

You can never go wrong with a classic width necktie, but if you lean toward looking more trendy than timeless, a skinny tie is acceptable if you have a slimmer frame. A man with a larger frame should wear a standard width or wider tie to achieve a proportionate look.

Wear a Tie and Make It Casual

When you add a necktie as part of your casual style, you have more freedom in the type of tie you wear. However, there are some basic guidelines to follow even when going with a more relaxed look.

1. Remember That Laid-Back Doesn’t Mean Sloppy

If you’re looking to make a shirt and tie more casual, undo your top button. It’s fine to go with any necktie knot that you’d like, but make sure that your tie remains tied so that you don’t risk looking as though you’re careless about your appearance.

2. Change Your Tie Materials and Patterns

When you’re rocking a casual look, feel free to experiment with interesting patterns. Paisley, checkerboard or even an homage to your favorite sports team is acceptable in a relaxed setting. Keep away from shiny or metallic materials, which aren’t appropriate for casual events.

A tie can make or break your entire look, so wear a tie that fits the occasion. Before you know it, putting together an ensemble that includes a stylish, appropriate necktie will come naturally. Send Rugged Standard your best tie looks along with any questions or comments. We welcome your feedback.
