These nine outdoor activities are all awesome things you can do this fall, so read up and see which of these activities will tickle your fancy this season.
Outdoor Activities | Fun Stuff To Do This Fall
1. Climb a Mountain
One of the best outdoor activities you can do in the fall is to climb a mountain. Summer is usually touted as the best time to go climbing, but fall can be even better due to the nice, cool temperatures. It’s not cold enough for you to be uncomfortable but just enough to make the work-out easier. Outdoor recreation activities like this are always awesome to do when the weather is this great.
2. Build a Treehouse
Building something in your backyard is one of the best outdoor activities you can do during the fall. There’s no better way to spend the season than to take on a huge project just in time for the holiday season — specifically, a treehouse. Enlist the help of your wife, kids, buddies, and even the dog if you’re feeling desperate. There’s nothing that grows the beard faster than working with your hands and feeling the crisp autumn air in your face.
3. Run a Mile… or More
Bundle up in your college sweats, put on your running shoes, and go to town. Autumn is one of the best seasons to go running. The temperatures are ideal to reduce sweating and dehydration. The trails and paths are littered with beautiful foliage that gives a satisfying crackle with every step you take (talk about a free way to de-stress). Not to mention there are tons of fun runs held in the fall, and plenty of post-run food you can only have during this season (turkey, anyone?)
4. Kayak in the Lake
There’s a different kind of bliss that comes with kayaking in the fall. As the leaves fall, the water takes on a surreal kind of beauty that can only be appreciated during this season. That said, lugging the ol’ kayak down to the lake for some outdoor recreation in the fall is a great idea. So good, that we might even go ahead and do it ourselves… if we ever get our butts off the couch and away from our Netflix queue.
5. Go out to Sea
What better time to take your uncle’s old boat for a spin than in the fall? This season usually has very stable weather and temperatures, which makes it a great time to go boating. Grab some buddies (and honeys, if you can) for some adults-only outdoor fun. Pack some booze, fishing rods, and get ready to make like the Lonely Island: I’m on a boat, motherf*ckr!
6. Get Lost on a Trail
Grab your backpack and fill it with trail mix, water, a camera, and a power bank for your phone. Drive over to the nearest nature trail with your preferred companions, or by yourself. Pick a trail, and follow it till the end. And there you go, you just experienced one of the most fun outdoor activities this fall: hiking. The cool, crisp air and the relative quiet will only do your body and sanity good. So take a trip out of the chaotic city and into the woods — you won’t regret it.
7. Take the Bike out for a Spin
That old bike in your garage has probably been pining for your attention this whole year. Why not take it out on a trip this fall? Grease up the chain and tighten the brakes. Pick a route and start pedaling. Take advantage of this beautiful season by going through roads less traveled. Biking is an excellent way to stay active and healthy. It’s also a great way to explore your surroundings better. Who knows, you might even find a nice, uncrowded route for your daily commute. For more fun, invite your friends and family on a long bike convoy, preferably towards a nice picnic spot. Speaking of which…
8. Have a Barbecue
Oh yes. What self-respecting man wouldn’t hold an outdoor barbecue in the fall? Bring out the old grill and fire it up. Grab all the salmon and beef steaks you have and start throwing them on the fire. If you don’t know how to perfectly grill a steak, don’t worry— we’ve got you covered, big guy. Make sure you have enough drinks for everyone too because we’re sure your party will keep going all the way into winter.
9. Camp Out
If we’re talking outdoor activities, we can’t leave camping out of the list. Autumn is quite possibly the best season to go camping. The calm, crisp weather along with the peaceful quiet of the woods can relax many a rugged outdoorsman. It’s also a great way to show off the rope knot skills you just recently learned.
Bring a lady along to make her swoon, as she looks on at your physique, single-handedly pitching the tent. Let her watch as you wrestle a bear for some fresh salmon (or you know, just fish for it with a rod.) Bring your comfiest sleeping bags, a cooler filled with beer, and some speakers to set the mood.
Just make sure you put the fire out.
